Mens sana in corpore sano – this Latin phrase is widely used in sporting and educational contexts to express the theory that physical exercise is an important and essential part of mental and psychological well-being. We also believe in this theory and therefore we encourage our students to be physically active, meaning not only on the dance floor and on the way to the Sky Garden buffet. 🙂 That´s why our Asia Exchange team in Bali organizes different sportive events to keep our students fit and to encourage them to try new things during their time on the island of gods.
Adrian, who is part of the AE team in Bali since October 2015 is a bundle of energy and mainly in charge of organizing all kinds of events for our students. So far, we´ve already had awesome activities like surfing lessons, CrossFit sessions or a Wild Water Rafting tour with almost 90 students, which was great fun.
In the following, we want to give you some impressions of our students having fun besides the lectures at university.
CrossFit Session at CrossFit Wanderlust Bali
On the 19th of February, we took our students to a free CrossFit session at CrossFit Wanderlust Bali. Our personal trainer Nick showed us the basics of this relatively new sport that combines elements from high-intensity interval training, Olympic weightlifting, powerlifting, gymnastics, calisthenics, strongman, and other exercises.
Squads, Burpees, Push-ups, Pull-ups and some weightlifting made our students sweat a lot and it caused some painful sore muscles, but also satisfaction for the next days. All of the around 40 attending Asia Exchange students did a great job, although all kinds of activities are even harder in Bali due to the tropical climate, and at least some of them will keep on doing this exhausting sport for the next months.
White Water Rafting
Around 90 students gathered up to have an awesome experience of white water rafting straight through the breath-taking jungle, close to Ubud. The rainy season in Bali is just the perfect time for this thrilling activity. After a short introduction and some safety issues, the students were split into groups of four and the adventure began. The tour went straight through the jungle and offered some stunning views. The highlight of the trip was a 4-meter-jump down a waterfall and after 2 hours, the students arrived at the end of the tour and were quite exhausted and hungry, but happy to have made this great experience. A well-deserved lunch was already waiting at the finish line and so a day full of adrenaline and fun came to an end.
Fortunately, this was not the end of us, organizing group-activities for our students in Bali. We´re planning to do a lot more fun stuff together, like Muay Thai Boxing, visiting the Waterbom Park, climbing a volcano to see the sunrise, playing Paintball and a soccer tournament.
Stay tuned to read about the upcoming activities during the next weeks! 😉
