Credits at Juntendo University
International students are required to take a minimum of 14 credits (~23 ECTS) per semester (approximately 7 courses). Students register for courses online during the designated registration period.
While every effort will be made to enroll students in their requested courses, there is no guarantee they will be able to secure their required or preferred courses.
Japanese university credits are generally based on an estimated workload of about 45 hours per credit, which is comparable to the credit systems used in the United States. This workload includes both in-class instruction and independent study time. A typical full-time semester course load ranges from 14 to 18 credits, which corresponds to approximately 23 to 30 ECTS credits.
Example conversions (1 credit = about 1.667 ECTS):
- 2 credits = 3 ECTS
- 3.5 credits = 6 ECTS
- 9 credits = 15 ECTS

- You must be currently enrolled at an institution of higher education (university, university of applied sciences or similar).

Confirmation, official acceptance letter and visa
You’ll get a confirmation of your study placement in 1-7 days, starting from when your application is complete with all the required documents. You’ll receive the official acceptance letter 1.5 months before the semester starts at the latest. We’ll send it to the street address you have provided in your application. Please let us know if this address changes at any point. You need the official acceptance letter to apply for a student visa.
Fees
The application fee invoice will be sent to you soon after the initial acceptance letter. This fee will be due within 10 days of receiving your confirmation. The application fee is non-refundable even if you decide to cancel (see below). The invoice for the tuition fee will be sent shortly after the application deadline and is due one month before the start of the semester.
Cancellation
If you’re unable to participate in the study abroad semester, you have the right to cancel your participation up to 1 month before the semester starts with no extra cost (the application fee will not be refunded, however). Let us know about your cancellation by writing us an email at info[at]asiaexchange.org. Cancellations notified via phone, SMS or by any other means will not be considered. Travel insurance
You are required to have a valid accident and health insurance for the whole duration of the program. The university may request a copy of the insurance certificate at the beginning of the semester. See our recommended travel insurance providers.

Finding a place to stay in Tokyo is straightforward for most Juntendo students. The university runs its own dormitory, Ochanomizu Hijiridai, offering single rooms with utilities included at 75,000 yen per month. Q: How do I select my courses?
A: You can register online for courses during the designated registration period. While every effort will be made to enroll students in their requested courses, there is no guarantee they will be able to secure their required or preferred courses.
Q: When do the exams take place?
A: During the autumn semester the exams take place in late January and during the spring semester in late July.
Visa & Travel
Q: When and how can I apply for my visa?
A: After being accepted by Juntendo University, you will apply for a Certificate of Eligibility (COE), which is required to obtain a student visa. Once you receive the COE, you will apply for a student visa at the nearest Japanese embassy or consulate. Read more about visa matters here.

Q: Is there on-campus accommodation available at Juntendo University?

Q: Can I bring prescription medicines to Japan?
A: Yes, but some medications are restricted or prohibited in Japan. You should check Japanese regulations in advance and may need to apply for a Yakkan Shōmei (import certificate) for certain prescription medicines.
Q: Do I need to have travel insurance?

Juntendo University Minimum Requirements
- Minimum age of 18 years
- You must be currently enrolled at an institution of higher education (university, university of applied sciences or similar).
- You must have sufficient English skills.

- Letter of Recommendation addressed to the Dean of the Faculty of International Liberal Arts (FILA), Juntendo University
- Proof of Language Proficiency, Juntendo accepts applicants who demonstrate English proficiency at CEFR B2 level or above*. Applicants whose first language is English are exempted from submitting an English proficiency certificate.

Q: How do I select my courses?
A: You can register online for courses during the designated registration period. While every effort will be made to enroll students in their requested courses, there is no guarantee they will be able to secure their required or preferred courses.
Q: When do the exams take place?
A: During the autumn semester the exams take place in late January and during the spring semester in late July.
Visa & Travel
Q: When and how can I apply for my visa?
A: After being accepted by Juntendo University, you will apply for a Certificate of Eligibility (COE), which is required to obtain a student visa. Once you receive the COE, you will apply for a student visa at the nearest Japanese embassy or consulate. Read more about visa matters here.

Q: Is there on-campus accommodation available at Juntendo University?

Q: Which vaccinations do I need to take?
A: Japan does not require specific vaccinations for entry, but students are advised to be up to date on routine immunizations and any vaccinations recommended by their home country or doctor.
Q: Can I bring prescription medicines to Japan?
A: Yes, but some medications are restricted or prohibited in Japan. You should check Japanese regulations in advance and may need to apply for a Yakkan Shōmei (import certificate) for certain prescription medicines.
Q: Do I need to have travel insurance?
A: You are required to have a valid accident and health insurance for the whole duration of the study abroad program. The university may request a copy of the insurance certificate at the beginning of the semester. Additional information and recommended insurance packages.

Q: When will I receive my Official Acceptance Letter?
A: The electronic official letter of acceptance will be delivered to you approximately 1.5 months before the semester starts.
Q: When will I receive my Transcript of Records?
A: The university prepares and sends the transcripts of records usually within 2 months after the end of the semester.
