Earning credits while studying in Latin America
The Latin American University of Science and Technology (ULACIT) works with the US credit system. Each academic course covers 45 contact hours per season (1 lesson each week, for 15 weeks), representing 6 ECTS or 3US credits per course.
The Semester Credit Hours (SCH) system of the United States assumes that a full-time study load is 30 US credits per year. A US Credit generally consists of a weekly workload of one hour in class and two hours outside of class for one semester. This means the total workload for one US Credit is generally between 45 and 50 hours, of which a minimum of 15 contact hours.
Please note that different to the ECTS system, the Semester Credit Hours system only considers contact hours in class, but not the individual study time.
