Q: How do I select my courses? 
A: Course registration dates will be sent to you by email. Course registration happens through Hanyang University’s own portal.

Q: What study level are the courses in the full degree program at Hanyang University?
A: The courses in the full degree program are Bachelor/undergraduate level courses.

Q: When do the exams take place?
A: Exams will be organized during the last few weeks of the semester. All courses and exams will be finished by the announced semester ending date.

Q: What type of visa do I need to have in order to study in South Korea?
A: You will need a D2 student visa in order to study in South Korea. Please contact your local embassy for more details.

Q: When can I apply for my visa?
A: You can start your visa application process after receiving the official acceptance letter from Hanyang University. The letter will be sent to you at the latest one month before the start of the semesterRead our general visa instructions here.

Q: Is there on-campus accommodation available at Hanyang University?
A: Yes. To apply to the campus dormitories, you must choose “Yes” when applying to Hanyang University through their own portal. You will later need to fill in a separate application for the dormitory on the university’s website. Please see here for more information about Hanyang University accommodation.

Q: When can I move into the dormitory, and how long can I stay there?
A: Check-in and check-out dates will be confirmed separately for each semester. Normally, you can check in 4 days before the start of the semester, and students can stay in the dorm for the duration of their program. The dormitory payment is paid directly to Hanyang University.

The university provides on-campus accommodation at the ERICA Campus. You can choose between single and double rooms at the dormitory. They are equipped with air conditioning, a bathroom, 1 single or 2 single beds, and other basic equipment. Students must apply to stay in on-campus dormitories through Hanyang University’s own portal here. As a pre-requisite to applying for the on-campus dormitories, students must have marked “YES” on the housing part of the Hanyang application form.

Q: What kind of costs should I be prepared for?
A: In addition to tuition fees, you should be prepared to pay for the student visaflightsaccommodation and other living costs.

The cost of living in Seoul is comparable to most European countries. However, like everywhere, the cost of living highly depends on your anticipated lifestyle. Usually, our students consider Seoul as well affordable.

Luckily, there are many options to help lower your costs while living in South Korea – goshiwons and public transport are great examples.

Q: Do I need to take into account any healthcare-related matters?
A: In addition to the basic vaccinations (MMR and diphtheria-tetanus), travelers are most often advised to get vaccinated against Hepatitis A and B. Vaccinations always depend partly on the individual, so remember to consult your physician.

Q: Do I need insurance?
A: All students are required to have valid insurance for the duration of the semester. See our recommended travel insurance providers here.

A: NHIS (National Health Insurance)

International students are required to apply for the National Health Insurance Service of Korea in compliance with the Republic of Korea’s laws (National Health Insurance Act). This is mandatory for foreigners staying in Korea for over six months, classifying them as Locally Insured Persons. Failure to pay the National Health Insurance fee can result in restrictions on obtaining a residential permit, such as a visa extension.

To ensure comprehensive insurance coverage beyond the National Health Insurance Service of Korea, all students must enroll in International Student Injury Insurance. The insurance fee is to be paid alongside the tuition fee and will be included in the tuition bill. Enrollment is contingent upon payment of the insurance fee.

Q: Can I get a scholarship as an international student at Hanyang University?
A: Yes, if you apply through Asia Exchange, you will get a discount on your first semester worth EUR 1960.  Moreover, there are two scholarships for international students at Hanyang University. Moreover,

  1. Hanyang International Excellence Awards (HIEA):
    • This award recognizes international students who have shown significant academic progress at Hanyang University.
    • Recipients are chosen through a document screening process.
    • Qualifications include holding a valid TOPIK level certificate, having insurance, and achieving a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the previous semester.
    • Benefits range from a 30% to 100% tuition reduction based on evaluation results.
    • The scholarship period is one semester.
    • Required documents and application periods are announced on the OIA website at global.hanyang.ac.kr.
  2. TOPIK Scholarship:
    • This scholarship is available for international students enrolled in a degree program at Hanyang University ERICA Campus.
    • Eligible students are those who achieve higher TOPIK levels than those submitted during admission or during the previous TOPIK Scholarship.
    • Benefits vary based on the department and TOPIK level attained:
      • All departments except for Design, Sports, and Arts (KRW 700,000): TOPIK no performance/level 3 or lower level 4 or higher
      • All departments except for Design, Sports, and Arts (KRW 500,000): TOPIK level 4 or higher level Sor higher
    • Scholarships are provided only to students who improve their TOPIK levels.
    • Applicants can receive duplicate benefits with other scholarships.
    • The application process involves online submission and requires the new TOPIK certificate.
    • Applications should be made right after the announcement of each TOPIK test result.
    • Scholarship regulations may change; the latest information can be found on the OIA’s official website.

Q: Are there any other recommended scholarships besides those directly offered by Hanyang University?
A: Many of our students apply for national student funding, such as PROMOS, BAföG, or CSN.

Q: Do I need to know any Korean beforehand?
A: It is not mandatory to know any Korean beforehand. However, knowing only a few basic words and phrases in advance will already help you a lot!

Q: Will my courses be held in English or Korean?
A: All courses in the Bachelor’s degree are üart of the English track at Hanyang University and are held in English.

Q: Can I join a Korean Language Class at Hanyanf University?
A: Yes, Hanyang University offers Korean Language Classes.
