Frequent asked questions

Q: Can I take Master’s level courses even if I’m a Bachelor’s level student?
A: It depends on your foundation courses from the Bachelor courses you have taken. It can be reviewed by UniCa after pre-selecting your courses.

Q: Are there mandatory courses?
A: There are no mandatory courses when studying at UniCa. You may choose from the available courses for the specific semester you will be joining. You cannot pre-select courses that is taught for a different semester as classes are organized by semester schedule. All courses offered to our students are taught in English. Should you have a proficiency in Italian, you can attend the other classes taught in Italian.

Q: When are my course selections confirmed?
A: The semester courses being offered in UniCa is being updated towards at the beginning of each academic year or every after each semester. Student’s can choose from all courses taught in English.

Q: Can I drop out of a course or add a course after making the course selections?
A: Adding or dropping out of course may take place on or before your arrival at the destination. However, should you choose to add or drop a course feel free to contact the international office or school registrar and coordinate what needs to be done or should you need to change the course for your credits.

Q: How does the weekly schedule look like?
A: During the orientation a week before the semester starts, you will be provided with the class schedule. The reason why international students are encouraged to choose below 6 courses to ensure that there are still days and time you can dedicate for your intercultural learning, immersions, or cultural excursions.

Q: What is the required minimum attendance?
A: Unwritten rule of thumb is to attend the classes 75% of the time including the mandatory lectures and workshops.

Q: When do the exams take place?
A: All exams will take place inside the official semester dates. Mid-term exams usually take place the week before the mid-term holiday and final exams the last week of the semester. The exams are scheduled for the same weekdays and times as your normal classes.

Dresscode: There is no specific dress code in UniCa. However, you are expected to dress well. No flip flops or boardies. Just remember to cover your shoulders and knees – and to wear proper shoes.

Q: What is the correct type of visa for studying at University of Cagliari
A: Student Visa (Long Stay type D) this is for the students who will be applying for any degree course that has at least 20 hours of courses per week (or 80 hours per month) and lasts more than 90 days. Learn more about the visa through this link.

Q: When can I apply for my visa?
A: As soon as you receive the official acceptance letter from University of Cagliari. We will send this to you latest 1 month before the semester starts. You cannot apply for your visa with the initial acceptance letter from Asia Exchange.

Q: How can I find suitable accommodation options?
A:  There are a few recommended accommodations in UniCa by former exchange students. Some look for accommodation on Stanza Stemplice on the internet page and found different rooms.

Q: Should I book accommodation in advance or after arriving in Cagliari?
A: It is completely up to you. Many of the cheapest places get booked in advance, but there are students who prefer checking the accommodation options in person after arrival.

Q: Which vaccinations do I need to take?
A: We recommend MMR, Tetanus-diphtheria and hepatitis A and B. You can ask your doctor for possible other recommendations for some routine vaccines before your trip.

Q: Can I bring prescription medicines to Cagliari?
A: That shouldn’t be a problem if you bring the doctor’s prescription with the medicine. Some medicines can be hard to find in Cagliari. Even though there are plenty of pharmacies, some medicines may not be available. Therefore, it’s important to check prior to your departure and to prepare accordingly.

Q: How are the hospitals in Cagliari?
A: There are many international standard hospitals in Cagliari. Ospedale Civile – Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria di Cagliari.

Q: Do I need to have travel insurance?
A: You are required to have valid accident and health insurance from your home country for the whole duration of the program. The university may request a copy of the insurance certificate at the beginning of the semester. See our recommended travel insurance providers.

In addition to tuition fees, you should be prepared to pay for the student visa, flights, accommodation, and other living costs and depending on each student’s lifestyle. For some, it can be an average cost of 1000€.

Q: I need to have my learning agreement/certificate of enrollment signed. What should I do?
A: Please fill out the document and send it to info@asiaexchange.org and we will forward it to University of Cagliari for signing.

Q: When will I receive my Official Acceptance Letter?
A: The electronic official letter of acceptance will be delivered to you approximately 1.5 months before the semester starts. Please print it for your student visa application.

Q: When will I receive my Transcript of Records?
A: The university prepares and sends the transcripts of records usually within 2 months after the end of the semester ends.

Q: Which other essential items should I bring with me from home?
A: Sunscreen, contact lenses, tampons, underwear, power bank, USB stick and dry shampoo.
