A student interview in paradise
In the beginning of every semester, Asia Exchange, together with Prince of Songkla University, organizes a trip to the Phi Phi islands. The idyllic islands are perfect environments for our students to relax and, in the meantime, get to know each other. Our social media coordinator, Fabian, went with them to enjoy a full weekend with boat sightseeing tours and partying. On a Saturday morning, Fabian went with a taxi boat to the beautiful Nui beach. Six other students joined him, and he interviewed two of them. Annika (A) and Maike (M) are just about to start their exchange semester in Phuket. Let’s see what they have to say, shall we?

Hello girls, so let´s start with you telling us your name and where you come from.
A: Hello, my name is Annika, 21 years old and I´m from south of Germany.
M: Hello, my name is Maike and I´m 21 years old and I live also in the south part of Germany. We both study Business administration in Württemberg.

A: And now we are really looking forward to studying here in Phuket for one semester at Prince of Songkla University.

And so we welcome you here to this beautiful island and country! Tell me, why did you choose to study in Thailand?
M: I chose Thailand because I´m so interested in learning more about the culture. the fact that I have been in Asia before made me determined to get back here. Also, I love the Thai food, it’s really really yummy!
A: My main reason is the weather! I love when it’s sunny and warm. Furthermore, I like the people here because they are so friendly.

I love the Thai food as well! A bit too spicy sometimes but it is just something you have to get used to I guess. So, What was the most exciting thing during your first week in Phuket?
M: The most exciting thing for me was to get the school uniform because we don’t have that in Germany.

A: For me, the greatest thing was to come here to the Phi Phi islands. It´s a school trip organized by the university and Asia Exchange, and yeah, it is just amazing to be here. It’s really beautiful!

I see you are eager to get back into the water! Last question, what are you interested in learning during the semester?
A: I´m interested in learning and see what the biggest differences between the educational system in Thailand and Germany are.
M: I’m interested to learn the real lifestyle of Thai people. When you are just on holidays, you are just in a foreign country for 2 weeks or so. That is Not enough time to grasp the culture, how everything works. I hope we will learn more about that during the semester.
Thank you, girls, for participating! Now, let’s go and have a coconut…
