Hello Jenna, please give our readers ashort background of yourself.

My name is Jenna Perus. I´m originally from Turku, Finland, but I moved to Copenhagen in 2017 and started working as a marketing manager for Momondo. Before that, I was working as a CMO for a video production company named Videolle in Helsinki.

I’ve done two semesters abroad, 2009 in Nicosia Cyprus and 2013 in Bangkok. I did my first exchange semester when I was doing my bachelor at Turku University of Applied Sciences. The second I did was in Bangkok 4 years later when I continued my master studies at Turku University.

Which University in Bangkok did you study at?

I studied at Kasetsart University. In Finland, I was studying my master degree in Economics and I wanted to find a school where I could study courses for my side subject: information system science. I had already done one exchange semester in Europe so I wanted to try Asia this time.

Why did you choose Thailand as your study destination?

I had already visited Thailand twice and I loved the local people, the amazing nature and that there are endless of places to visit. Now, I chose Bangkok because of the reasons that it’s really cheap and easy to travel to other countries like Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia etc. I wanted to take the opportunity to just explore Asia as much as possible during the semester.

Where did you live during your stay in Bangkok?

I stayed with my Finnish friend at Vibhavadi Tower, which was recommended by Asia Exchange. It’s located near to the University and it has its own pool, gym, and even a Finnish sauna. We were really happy with that accommodation.

How did studying in Bangkok affect your life?

I was able to get closer to the normal Thai life when living in an area where normal tourists were not staying. It was also great to be able to communicate a little bit with the locals in their own language after studying it at school. The locals were always warm, helpful and welcoming.

Me and my friends traveled aroundin Thailand and Asia almost every weekend. We visited a lot of amazing places, met a lot of inspiring people but we also witnessed the backside of Asia. We got to experience the injustice and poverty, especially in Cambodia. It was a learning experience to go through that. It helped me build new values and it mademe appreciate more all the good things we have in our lives.
