“HUFS is the number one global university in South Korea”
Seoul is one of the most vibrant and modern megacities in Asia. The city has been South Korea’s educational hub for decades and has also caught on with international students in recent years. Being one of the top ranked universities in Seoul, HUFS lives up to the high educational standards but it would not have been possible without the shining lights who work at the campus. One of them is Jia. Read more about her experiences from the interview we conducted.

Hello Jia, can you please introduce yourself.
Hello! First of all, I am Jia Shin and I work at the office of International Students’ service at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. Basically, my job is to welcome new students and help them during the semester at HUFS.

Why should students choose Seoul as their study destination?
That’s a very interesting question indeed. Well, I think Seoul is becoming a more interesting and fascinating city thanks to the international students coming here every year. Seoul is full of history and the city is becoming more and more interesting to foreign people. The city is extraordinary mix of modernity and tradition. And due to the economic changes and the dynamic culture, Seoul is a great place to stay at during your studies. I can also guarantee you will feel like home in Seoul because the local people are so welcoming and open.

Why should students choose to study at HUFS?
In Korea there are many good universities. Although, HUFS has always been one of the top 10. We distinct ourselves in many ways. We offer 45 different foreign language courses. For example Azerbaijani, Greek, German and many other rare languages you may not usually think of. We have more than a hundred different nationalities studying at HUFS, which makes us the only university with such a diversity. Thanks to that, we can now offer many different international programs. This means you have the opportunity to choose your own curriculum based on your needs and preferences.

Golden memories?
A great memory I have was when I traveled through Spain by myself. I randomly ran into a former student from Asia Exchange in Barcelona. It was amazing. He invited me to come to his house and we shared many memories and laughs. What I love about this job is that I meet so many students from all around the world. I am in contact with most of them via Facebook. Sometimes students come back to Seoul and they usually drop by our office to have a chat. For me this is more than just a job I think, and I look forward to have more good memories with Asia Exchange’s students.
